THE “DECORATIVE ART – METAL” COLLECTION

The Decorative art – metal collection encompasses 10 860 items, featuring objects made of different metals and alloys, based on copper, iron and lead, that illustrate European decorative art and, occasionally, Oriental art. Most objects date from the 19th century.

A part of the items are silver or gold plated, chromed, tinned etc. and are of religious and secular type, having memorial, artistic and historical value. Some items have special origins, such as the dinnerware set marked with the monogram of the United Romanian Principalities, which contains trays, tea pots, milk pots, spoons, knives, forks, ladles, objects with the Romanian royal family coat-of-arms, commemorative or anniversary items and objects linked to certain events or personalities.

There are also a few objects found in archaeological dig sites.
