Constantin I. Nottara: Theater is my life!

STARTING JULY 2019

THEMATIC EXHIBITION AT SUȚU PALACE

„CONSTANTIN I. NOTTARA: THEATER IS MY LIFE!”

From July 30th to October 6th 2019, the Suțu Palace will host a temporary exhibition to honor the memory of the great actor C.I. Nottara, an important figure of the Romanian theater art . Together with other remarkable names of the time, such as Grigore Manolescu, Aristizza Romanescu, Iancu Brezeanu, Paul Gusty and others, Nottara devoted himself body and soul to the development of theater art in Romania, which meant „upgrading” acting from „amateurishness” to „profession”. C.I. Nottara considered that Theater Art was the most complex art of all, because it „creates life”.

The structure of the exhibition will be based on a „spine” made of the anniversaries of 2019, connected to the figure of Constantin I. Nottara:

>>> 160 years since the birth of Master C.I. Nottara (1859 – 2019);

>>> 200 years since the first theater show performed in Romanian in Wallachia, Bucharest, inside the first show-room: „At the Red Pump” (1819 – 2019);

>>> 100 years since the first B.N.T. official tour in Ardeal, a moment which sanctioned „the Union in thought and feelings” of Romanians, together with other cultural events (1919-2019);

The objects on display will attempt to illustrate as eloquently as possible the subject of the exhibition, both through their diversity and spiritual value. They constitute only a small part of the C.I. and C.C. Nottara Collection, as the rich patrimony which once belonged to the Nottara family is much wider. Apart from the 7.300 books in Romanian, French, German or Greek, there are also photographs, documents, objects of art, furniture and personal items.
